About us

Joseph Kigonya | Technical Director

Joseph started his career as an electrical installation engineer before completing a Higher National Diploma (HND) in Electronic Engineering. He then attended Birmingham City University where he graduated with a First Class Honours Degree in Electrical and Electronic Engineering. After a few years designing audio power amplifier’s and high-power (to 800kW) 3-phase industrial motor controllers, Joseph moved into the Aerospace Industry. As a design engineer at Matra Marconi Space (now Airbus), his particular focus was Synthetic Aperture Radar (SAR) and satellite power system design and development. In 1998, Joseph founded Techline Systems then spent many years as a respected power system design consultant at Surrey Satellite Technology (SSTL) and QinetiQ with a flare for turning around difficult projects including GIOVE-A Europe’s first Galileo technology demonstrator (launched 2005), BepiColombo Europe’s first mission to Mercury (launched 2018), ESA’s Quantum Mission, and complete design for a new Power Processing Unit (PPU) technology demonstrator launched on NovaSAR-1 in 2018.

In 2018, Techline Systems moved to a new purpose built design facility in Hampshire and the company continues to offer expert engineering design and manufacturing services to industry and academia.

Mike Collins | Chief Mechanical Engineer

Mike has over 20 year’s experience in mechanical design and industrial engineering. His experience includes the design and manufacture of test jigs, fixtures and he has a unique talent when it comes to the design of special purpose machines for the manufacturing industry.

Mike brings a very broad range of practical experience to the Techline team and his knowledge base covers simple assembly aids to fully integrated machines for high volume production environments. Mike specialises in mechanical requirements capture and subsequent 3D CAD modelling with a focus on providing quick turn-around, high-quality yet affordable solutions. In 2018, Techline invested in the very latest continuous Fiber 3D Printer which has completely revolutionised our in-house manufacturing operation. Basically, Mike can literally print Aluminum-strength parts and components from his desktop!

Alex Lopz | Senior Electronics Engineer

Alex joined Techline Systems in 2014. Alex a methodical engineer who’s very skilled at finding the most practical and cost effective solution for any design project. His speciality is Aerospace design and he has a thorough knowledge of electronic design principles including industry design standards and worst case analysis techniques.

Alex has a very varied electronics design experience. He started out in the computer industry working with Novell Local Area Network hardware and software applications. After obtaining an Honours degree in Electronic Engineering, Alex moved into research and development within the Aerospace industry. With a particular focus on power convertor design, his experience includes the successful design and completion of a DC-DC power convertor for the European Space Agency’s Rossetta mission launched in 2004.

Alex is fluent in English and Spanish (both written and spoken) which makes him a very valued member of the Techline team since we have clients in the UK and Spain.

Ian Collins | Electronics Engineer

Ian is an experienced electrical and electronics engineer with a good working knowledge of software design and mechanical engineering. Having worked for many years in computer systems manufacturing, he finally specialised in Data Centre infrastructure and power distribution systems design.

As a valued member of the team, Ian now uses his extensive knowledge and expertise to support the implementation phase of various projects including hardware design, software design, and test rack assembly,  build and test.

The Techline team has been painstakingly crafted with technical
excellence and exceptional attention to detail.
